Painting the space where theatre, abstraction and everyday life collide.
Through painting and drawing, I explore theatricality, bodily consciousness and the ongoing tension between nature and artifice. Guided by intuition, failure and continual reworking, my practice considers how painting can reveal both the beauty and awkwardness of being human, as well as the physical limitations of the body, embracing uncertainty as an essential element of each work.
Through continual layering, erasure and revision, each work develops slowly, often arriving somewhere entirely different from where it began.
Conceptual
My paintings draw on the romantic and phantasmal history of painting while responding to the anxieties of the contemporary world.
I am interested in the parallels between spectacle, theatre and painting, and how each constructs experiences that exist somewhere between reality and illusion. Although theatrical references appear throughout my work, they are also a way of questioning the performative nature of everyday life.
Ordinary moments become staged encounters, where authenticity and artifice continually overlap.
"Conflict and friction are generative forces within my practice."
